Steins;Gate OP and ED

I present to you all the opening and ending theme to the anime adaptation of Steins;Gate – right after the jump.

“Hacking to the Gate” by Itou Kanako (Chaos;Head OP (mal), Hatenkou Yuugi OP (mal), and many visual novel themes)

A lot of gears, static, and grainy shots of the main characters looking rather serious, expressive, and/or melancholic. Although only singing a few songs for anime, Itou Kanako (wiki / mal) sings a lot more for visual novels. Her trademark singing style is rather fitting for this series, although the style itself is just what I perceive it to be. It would be easier to understand what I mean by listening to a few of her other songs – one of my personal favourites would be “Shoes of Glass” (youtube), an ending theme to the infamous Lovecraftian VN, Saya no Uta (wiki).

I feel I should say more about this OP, but practically nothing comes to mind in terms of praise or criticism. It does well in providing a mysterious feeling, and it makes you wonder what the series is leading up to. But at the same time you realize that it might be a long (and boring) while before those interesting moments will happen.

“Toki Tsukasadoru Juuni no Meiyaku” by Yui Sakakibara (Prism Ark OP (mal), Nyan Koi! OP (mal), and many visual novel themes)

Sure is deep (in space?). Yui Sakakibara (wiki / mal) has a wide range of theme song and voice acting roles, most of which from visual novels. I was a bit surprised to see that she was singing the ending to Steins;Gate, especially since it has that depressing emotion to it. What I mean is that compared to some of the other songs I’ve heard her sing (Youtube 1,2), this is quite different. But not surprisingly, she pulls it off quite nicely. I wonder if she will have any character roles in the series, like her role as Ayase Kishimito (mal) in Chaos;Head.

Likewise, nothing much to comment on. My impression of Steins;Gate so far is good, with the exception that I have no idea what to expect out of it. Not that it’s a bad thing, but rather, it creates a decent amount of suspense early on in the series. Chaos;Head had moments like those as well, but I was somewhat disappointed by the end of it. Fortunately, WHITE FOX (ann) is charge of the production – they are somewhat new in terms of producing their own series, but from seeing their first few works (Tears to Tiara (mal), Katanagatari (mal) ), I am definitely looking forward to the quality of this work.

HEVN will be covering Steins;Gate for the next few months, and he has already posted a visual summary of the first episode, so please enjoy!
